If you are thinking whether you should go with Wordpress for your new website or try out Webflow, you have come to the right place. Let’s take a deep dive into comparing two popular website development platforms. Wordpress vs Webflow is a hot topic in the web development community.

And if you are in the process of building a new website, we can recommend you to have a read of our another blog around building successful websites that convert.

While Wordpress has been around for a couple of decades, Webflow has gained popularity in the last 6-7 years or so. Both have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. However, in this blog post, we will focus on why we moved away from Wordpress in 2020 and now build all new websites on Webflow.

Both platforms are ‘WYSIWYG’ (what you see is what you get) and now that we have introduced both platforms let's compare their features.

Design and Customisation

When it comes to design and customization, Webflow has a significant advantage over WordPress. Webflow provides a visual editor that allows users to design their websites visually, without writing any code. The editor provides an intuitive interface for creating custom layouts, and the user can even choose from a wide range of pre-designed templates. Webflow also provides a range of design tools, such as animation and interactions, that allow users to create websites that are visually stunning. The number of plugins on the Webflow ecosystem are also growing.

On the other hand, WordPress requires users to have some coding knowledge to create custom designs. WordPress themes provide a starting point for website design, but users need to customize the theme code to create a unique look and feel. While WordPress has a vast ecosystem of plugins and themes that offer customizations, these customizations require a learning curve to use effectively.

Content Management

If you are looking for a strong content management platform, both Webflow and WordPress provide robust solutions. Webflow has a built-in CMS that allows users to create and manage content easily. The CMS provides a user-friendly interface for adding and editing content, and users can preview their changes before publishing. Webflow also allows users to create custom content types, making it easy to manage a wide range of content.

WordPress was created around the blog and content management needs. It also has a robust CMS that allows users to manage their content efficiently. WordPress provides a editor that makes it easy to add and edit content. It also allows users to create custom post types, making it easy to manage different types of content.

Ease of Use

Webflow is designed to be easy to use, even for beginners. Its visual editor and intuitive interface make it easy to design and publish websites. Webflow also provides excellent documentation and support, making it easy for users to get started quickly.

WordPress has a steeper learning curve than Webflow, and it can be intimidating for beginners. While WordPress provides an extensive range of customization options, these options can be overwhelming for users who are not familiar with the platform. However, WordPress also has an extensive community of users and developers who provide support and documentation to help new users get started.

SEO capabilities

Webflow offers provides built-in SEO features that make it easy for users to optimize their websites for search engines.  Customisable Meta tags,  automated XML sitemaps, clean, semantic HTML code that makes it easy for search engines to crawl and automated alt text generation for images are some of the useful features offered by Webflow to support search engine optimisation.

Wordpress has been known for strong SEO. Apart from customisable meta tags and XML sitemaps, one of the most popular SEO plugin - Yoast SEO is available on Wordpress. However, Webflow's clean code and built-in image optimization give it a slight edge over WordPress in terms of technical SEO

Hosting and Security

Webflow provides a fully managed hosting solution, making it easy for users to launch their websites quickly. Webflow also provides SSL encryption, regular backups, and security updates, making it a secure platform for hosting websites.

WordPress, on the other hand, requires users to find their own hosting provider. While Wordpress itself is free and there are hosting providers that specialise in WordPress hosting, users need to research, choose a provider that meets their needs and pay for their services. WordPress also requires users to manage their own security, backups, and updates, making it more challenging to maintain a secure website.  Wordpress sites are also more prone to cyber attacks as the responsibility to keep the Wordpress Core and plugins updated lies with the user.

Both Webflow and WordPress have their own unique advantages and disadvantages. If you're looking for a website builder that is easy to use, provides an intuitive design interface with capabilities to offer modern designs, and takes care of hosting and security, Webflow is the clear winner. While WordPress has a powerful CMS that offers a wide range of customization options (Webflow’s CMS is also pretty good), websites are harder to build and need more maintenance to keep a website secure and up-to-date.

These are the reasons why we have moved away from Wordpress and focus on Webflow for building websites. You can also check out some of our previous Webflow projects here.
